Best podcasts for your commute home

An essential part of our commute home these days can be found on your smartphone.

Podcasts ranging across all topics have become a staple of the commuters and dog walkers diet as we discover new realms of information.

Some of the best, and new podcasts you might not have heard of, are listed below.

1. Irishman Abroad

The popular Irish comedian, Jarlath Regan, has made a name for himself on the comedy circuit in UK and Ireland for his interesting interviews he does with characters asocited with the Emerald Isle.

The template of the show is Regan interviewing a different character each week either born in Ireland like comedian Dara O’Briain, actor Chris O’Dowd or someone of Irish heritage like Jason Manford.

The interviews last between 45 minutes and an hour and touch on parts of the life of the person Regan interviews.

2. This American Life

This American Life is a weekly public radio show broadcast on more than 500 stations to about 2.2 million listeners.

Host Ira Glass hosts each episode and tells a different story about a different character.

There’s a theme to each episode of This American Life, and a variety of stories on that theme.

It’s mostly true stories of everyday people, though not always.

3. Desert Island Discs

Desert Island Discs was created by Roy Plomley in 1942 and is hosted nowadays by Kirsty Young.

The format is simple: a guest is invited by Young to choose the eight records they would take with them to a desert island.
