Nissan Micra 1ltr 16 valve
For this week’s Cars for Under £1000 blog we’ve found the bargain car of the week in the form of the Nissan Micra 1ltr. At loot.com we have online for just £395. There’s also plenty of other cars under £1000 on our site and don’t forget you can use loot.com to sell your unwanted, old motor!
If you’re looking for a new car but you don’t have a large budget, the Micra is the car for you. For the cost of putting a newer vehicle through its MOT you could have an entire car! The example we’ve found has a very long MOT and is in good condition, inside and out. Making it great for getting around town, to and from work or college. Due to its size the Micra is also very easy to park almost anywhere. So if you’re looking for a cheap city runaround this could be the one for you.
The Nissan Micra is pretty economical to drive, especially so if driven sensibly. Due to its small engine size it is very cheap to insure as well. It is a notoriously reliable little hatchback with lots of Micra owners reporting that they’ve only ever replaced tires and windscreen wipers throughout years of ownership. One issue with a lot of Nissans, however, is the lack of replacement parts available if something does go wrong. This means that, whilst it isn’t necessarily expensive, there can be a fairly long wait to replace body panels or engine components.
In terms of drivability the Micra isn’t the most luxurious car in the world, but it does have its benefits. IIt has great visibility from the cabin and blind spots are minimal and, considering the age of the car, it’s fairly pleasant to drive on long journeys. However, with just a 1 litre engine it does feel dismally underpowered and struggles with steep hills or if it’s overfilled.
Overall the Micra’s main, overwhelming, benefit is its price. At the cost of a replacement brake caliper in a VW Polo the same age you could buy an entire car. So, whilst this little hatchback is far from luxury it does make a fantastic car under £1000.
