This week the car we’ve selected for our Cars For Under £1000 blog this week is the Peugeot 307, we’ve got a HDi, estate, 56 plate with 6 months MOT for just £950 at Loot.com. Along with plenty of other examples to suit any budget. You can also place your own free ad on the site if you’re looking to sell your used car.
First things first, this is a good looking and hugely spacious car. If you’re looking for a vehicle with a lot of boot space then this could be the car for you. The tailgate opens completely flat and when the back seats are down the boot space is vast. Perfect for anything from a trip to Ikea to transporting building equipment.
The exterior of the 307 is remarkably modern, even though the design isn’t that new. There is quite a lot of good equipment on the 307 as well, so if it’s gadgets you’re after the 307 has plenty.
Don’t be put off by high mileage on 307s. The major components of the car are well built so generally the elements under the bonnet should last. Unfortunately modern Peugeot’s are notoriously prone to small faults, which tend to build up over time. The key to getting round this is to thoroughly check the vehicle before purchase is made. Especially keep an eye out for any unexpected moisture or issues with indicator rods. However, these small issues aside the engine of the diesel 307 is economical and powerful.
Driving the Peugeot 307 can be a bit cumbersome. The gearbox can feel a bit clunky and it isn’t particularly sharp round corners. However, these aren’t major issues and if you’re on a tight budget these might not be priority. These things aside, the cabin is a nice place to be. It feels spacious because of the high roof and the seats are comfortable even on long journeys.
If you’re looking to buy a car under £1000 and your priorities are to do with the amount you can fit in the boot, you won’t get much more from a car than the 307. However, if you’re looking for a fun drive and something nippy to get around town in, you may want to think more about getting a hatchback such as a Ford Fiesta or Fiat Punto.
